ELIGIBILITY TO OFFICIATE

On Ice Officials under the age of 18

Due to changes imposed by the new Police Record Checks Reform Act (PRCRA) legislation, effective November 1st, 2018, a police check for persons under 18 years of age will not be processed, UNLESS applying for a position with a government agency (federal, provincial or municipal).

Therefore, applicants under the age of 18 will not be required to obtain a Police Record Check OR Criminal Records Check.  However, the Criminal Offence Declaration Form (CODF) which is included with the OWHA 2023-2024 Registration Package must be signed, dated and return to the OWHA ([email protected])

On Ice Officials 18 years of age and over are required to submit a Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS). If you've submitted your Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS/VSC) to the OWHA this past season, and you are in good standing, please complete Criminal Offence Declaration Form (CODF)  that is included with the OWHA 2023-2024 Registration Package and return all completed documents to the OWHA ([email protected])

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR POLICE RECORD CHECK (VSS) DOCUMENT

If you are a first-time or re-certifying official of 18 years of age of older and will be attending an OWHA clinic, you MUST submit a copy of your VSS prior to registering for a clinicPlease email a PDF copy of your VSS document (all pages) to [email protected]. Images and pictures are NOT accepted.  Access to the program will only be granted to those officials who have a current VSS/VSC on their (HCR) profile.  You will not be able to register for any clinic without this. If you have initiated the process to obtain your VSS/VSC, please submit a copy of the receipt you obtained at the time of your request. Once a copy of the receipt has been emailed to [email protected],  the receipt will be used to temporarily updated and open your HCR profile so that you can register for a clinic. This is a condition of being able to access the registration process.

Any official that submitted a receipt to the OWHA in order to register for an officials’ clinic, must submit a copy of the official VSS/VSC or CRC document to [email protected] in a PDF format before December 31, 2023.

Failure to provide a copy of the official VSS document could result in the revoking of your officiating status with the OWHA and other member partners.  All On Ice Officials must adhere to this Police Check Policy.

The renewal period for your VSS will be every 3 years. (Example: Year one a VSS/VSC, year two a CODF, year three CODF and year four a VSS/VCS or CRC.)
