We are the MGHL; the only all female hockey association in Mississauga proudly supporting the development of girls of all ages and skill levels through our national sport for over 50 years!

Founded in 1967 by Maybel Boyd, a pioneer and ambassador of female hockey, our association offers both Recreational (House / Select) and Representative (Rep) Leagues for girls and young women of all skill levels; our Junior Hurricanes team offers elite level competitive hockey. The MGHL currently has over 40 teams and 600 athletes registered; House League Divisions begin at 4 years of age in U7 through to U22, with Rep Divisions starting at 7 years of age in U9 through to Senior and includes Levels ranging from B, BB, A, and AA.

In 2019 we rebranded to the MGHL Hurricanes, in honour of former Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion. Nicknamed Hurricane Hazel, our former mayor has been a significant supporter and proponent of female hockey and a beloved member of the Mississauga community.

In 2021 the MGHL announced our new outstanding and comprehensive core values, vision, mission statement and development philosophy. These principles guide our approach towards developing our athletes to their full potential.

“We believe in the development of our athletes, and our new development philosophy and core values reinforce our commitment to them and to the greater Mississauga community. We’ve always known that being a Hurricane meant maniacal Focus, seizing Opportunities, demonstrating Respect and Commitment, and striving for Excellence. Now we’re telling the world and owning it.”

The MGHL truly believes in the development of athletes and development begins with the core values they possess. These core values - Focus, Opportunity, Respect, Commitment and Excellence - are modeled by all members within the MGHL and are values that we strongly believe in. Our logo above is the representation of our core values within the MGHL.

The vision of the MGHL is to enrich the lives of girls through hockey.

Our mission is to provide a safe space for all players to learn, develop and grow on and off the ice through comprehensive, education-based hockey programs.

The MGHL is committed to providing development opportunities and programs to inspire girls to reach their full potential, both as a hockey player and a valued member of their community.
