WELCOME TO THE MGHL HOUSE LEAGUE
We are the only all girls hockey association in Mississauga and have been sharing our passion for hockey with girls aged 4 and up for over 50 years. Our vision at the MGHL is to enrich the lives of girls of all ages through our national sport. We provide a safe space for all players to learn, develop and grow on and off the ice through comprehensive, education-based hockey programs.
Our focus is on the encouragement of fun, friendship, and developing skills in a low pressure, positive environment for all of our players.

SCHEDULE
The current season will begin with our Evaluation / Return to the Ice Skate tentatively scheduled for September 8, 2024, and run through to the beginning of March, 2025. Practices will begin near the end of September, with team formation happening in late September / early October.
Ice times for U7, U9 and U11 will be on Saturdays / Sundays, with all other divisions running practices and games on Sundays / Mondays. Note that registered players are expected to attend BOTH on-ice sessions each week.
The MGHL strives to keep ice times mostly at Iceland Arena, but on occasion practices and games may be played at other arenas throughout the City of Mississauga. Please keep in mind that Iceland Arena reserves several blackout weekends for Tournaments (approximately 5 - 6 dates per season); however, our House League players are typically on the ice between 32 - 38 times throughout the season.
EVALUATION
Our season begins with an Evaluation Skate, where players participate in various on-ice drills. This is a chance for players to get back on the ice having some fun, while coaches can review individual skills. Based on these evaluations, players will be grouped into teams representing a balance of ability. The intent is to create fair and equal groupings of player abilities across each team to keep practices and games positive for everyone. We welcome players of all skill levels!
EQUIPMENT NEEDED
Staying safe out on the ice is very important. This requires that all athletes wear properly fitted, full, protective gear. It is every families' responsibility to ensure that all protective equipment is properly sized for each athlete and in good working condition. Please download our MGHL Equipment Checklist / Fit Sheet for a list of the gear needed every time players get out on the ice. Note that the MGHL provides jerseys and hockey socks as part of registration fees, once Teams have been formed in approximately mid-October.
HOUSE LEAGUE GOALIES
The MGHL values the drive and commitment of our goaltenders, which is why we are pleased to offer FREE REGISTRATION for our full season goalies beginning at the U11 and higher divisions! Rebates will be issued at the end of the season. Additionally, we have goalie equipment available to borrow for goalies in all our divisions that need the following: stick, blocker, catcher, leg pads, shoulder/arm pads, throat and chest protectors.
DEVELOPMENT STREAM (DS / SELECT) PROGRAM
Each year, DS Program offerings are authorized by the OWHA. House League players and goaltenders interested in further skills development opportunities are invited to attend DS Tryouts, usually held in November. Teams are typically established by December and play through the remainder of the season. The DS Program gives House League players a chance to experience a slightly higher level of competition through extra training and facing teams of other leagues.
EXTRA SKILLS PROGRAMS
Each year the MGHL arranges extra development opportunities for our registered players and goaltenders. Programs have been led by volunteers, professional coaches and elite athletes. These optional sessions are offered through the league at either no cost or for a nominal fee, and have included:
- Skills development
- Power skating
- Goalie clinics
REFUND POLICY
Please find our cancellation and refund policy here: House League Refund Policy.
MANAGING THE COST OF HOCKEY
Families interested in offsetting some of the costs of hockey can read about financial assistance opportunities here: Hurricanes Assist Program.
