Head Coach
Coach Bio:
Brittney Cosmo is a High Performance 1 certified coach and a former member of the Nipissing Lakers Women’s hockey team. While at Nipissing, Brittney received an All Canadian Academic Award receipt for achieving Academic and Athletic Excellence awarded by the Governor of Canada.
As a coach, Brittney has always coached at the AA level for 7 years, pushing athletes to great achievements; including coaching 40+ athletes to achieve U18 Team Canada, U16 Summer Games, U18 Team Ontario, OUA and D1/D2 Scholarship Opportunities. Outside of hockey, Brittney has facilitated Team Ontario Basketball and Volleyball camps and facilitated a Special Needs Assistance Program for neurodiverse athletes.
In January, Brittney was selected to be an Assistant Coach for the 2006 Team Ontario All-Star exhibition game against the Canada Winter Games U18 Team. This past summer, Brittney was an Assistant coach at the 2022 U16 Summer Games where her team won a Silver Medal. She was a high performance coach at the 2022 Ontario U18 Player and Goalie Camps.
In April 2023, Brittney was selected as an Off-Ice official for the IIHF 2023 Women's World Championships including being selected as an Off-Ice Official for the Gold Medal Game.
Outside the rink, Brittney is an Elementary School teacher. Her education includes; Physical Education Degree - Brock University, Bachelor of Education Degree - Nipissing University and Masters of Education Degree - Nipissing University.
From 2020 to 2023, Brittney was the Hockey Development Director for the Mississauga Girls Hockey League, implementing the following initiatives:
- Established a Mission Statement and Core Values for the Organization (Completed August 2021)
- Established a logo for “FORCE” which encompasses the character of our namesake Hazel McCallion (August 2021)
- Created a Coaches Corner Page, Player Development Page and Mission Statement Page on our MGHL website (Completed August 2021)
- Created an MGHL Long Term Development Plan for the Organization (Completed August 2021)
- Created Visual Pathways for the Organization, including a Player Pathway and Coach Pathway, and published them on the website (Completed September 2021)
- Implemented Goal Specific Phased Plan for Development (Completed August 2021)
- Coaches Access to “Coach Them” to share drills and collaborate with coaches amongst their age group (Completed September 2021)
- Created a four year Phased Plan for Coaches Meetings (Completed August 2021)
- Created A Development Application process for External Development to keep players safe (Completed August 2021)
- Introduced Board Approved Female Development Staff for 2021/22 and 2022/23 Seasons (Completed August 2022)
- Introduced a power skating program with 80+ participants for athletes ages U7 to U18 (Began November 2022)
- Introduced the Idea for the Hazel McCallion Athlete of Week (on-going)
- Created a Call-Up and Internal Scouting Report Process (To be released August 2023)
- Created a MGHL Coaches Handbook to update coaches on Norms and Standard Practices (Released April 2023)
