Over the weekend of November 21 - 23, the MGHL hosted our 45th annual Winter Classic Tournament and we welcomed 82 talented teams across 14 divisions for over 180 exciting games!
The 2025 Mississauga Winter Classic delivered a weekend full of high-energy hockey, dramatic momentum shifts, and championship performances as the Mississauga Hurricanes hosted teams from across the province. When the final gusts settled, four of our Hurricanes teams had weathered every challenge and skated away with gold medals, showcasing depth, resilience, and championship composure across age divisions. From tight defensive battles to redemption arcs forged in the playoffs, our Hurricanes proved that when the pressure rises, the storm only strengthens.
Our U11B Richard Hurricanes opened the tournament by steadily building momentum through a competitive round robin, finishing second overall with a 1-1-1 record before unleashing their strongest hockey when it mattered most. Mississauga set the tone early with a 1-0 shutout win over the Orangeville Tigers, keeping the Tigers at bay. A tightly contested matchup against the Etobicoke Dolphins followed, ending in a 1-1 draw, before the Hurricanes faced a 2-0 setback against the London Devilettes. Refusing to be slowed by shifting winds, the Hurricanes regrouped for the semi-finals, where they faced the Dolphins once again. This time, the storm surged, and a 1-0 semi-final shutout victory propelled our Hurricanes into the championship game! In a rematch against the Devilettes, Mississauga delivered, edging out London with a 1-0 championship shutout to capture GOLD! Congratulations to our U11B Richard Hurricanes!

If resilience had a headline moment at the Winter Classic, it belonged to the U13BB Menchella/Wilson Hurricanes. Our team faced early turbulence in round robin play, encountering a tough draw against the Burlington Barracudas, Etobicoke Dolphins, and Lakeshore Lightning. However, despite the challenging results, our Hurricanes remained determined to shift the forecast. That opportunity came in the semi-finals and the response was thunderous. Matched up once again against the Lakeshore Lightning, the Hurricanes flipped the script, striking to earn a 2-1 semi-final victory that sent a clear message: this storm was far from over. In the gold medal final game, our Hurricanes faced the Dolphins for a second time. This time, there was no splashing through; Mississauga dominated the conditions, delivering a 2-0 shutout win to complete an unforgettable playoff run and claim championship GOLD! From adversity to triumph, our Hurricanes proved that the strongest storms rise after the clouds gather. Congratulations to our U13BB Menchella/Wilson Hurricanes!

A tight 2-1 win against the Brock Jr. Badgers followed, showcasing the team’s composure in close conditions. Despite a 3-0 round robin loss to the Burlington Barracudas, our Hurricanes remained firmly on course. In the semi-finals, our U15A Dalzell team unleashed a gale FORCE against the West Northumberland Wild, shutting down any attempt for their opponent to run free, securing the win with a 3-0 victory. That set the stage for a championship rematch against the Barracudas, and this time our Hurricanes controlled the current. Battling through a tense final, they surged to solidify a 2-1 GOLD medal championship win! Congratulations to our U15A Dalzell Hurricanes!
