A Blizzard of Effort in Collingwood for U13B Richardson

The U13B Richardson team faced an uphill battle at the Collingwood Thundersnow Classic, but our Hurricanes never backed down from the storm. The team took to the ice in round robin play, battling some of Ontario’s fiercest competition and finishing 2nd in points with a 2-1-1 record.

Their tournament kicked off with a tough 3-1 loss to the hometown Collingwood Lightning, where the local crowd's energy rattled our Hurricanes. Despite the loss, there were bright spots, including a strong effort by Player of the Game, Sadie M., and great line work resulting in a goal. Determined to shake it off, our Hurricanes regrouped their focus for Game 2 against the Central Perth Predators, skating to a 1-1 tie in a hard-fought battle. Goaltender Mikayla C. stood tall under pressure, and Selena P. earned Player of the Game honours for her relentless play.

With their sights set on a medal, the Hurricanes stormed into Game 3 and delivered a 1-0 shutout win over the top-ranked Temiskaming Shores Puckhounds. Our Hurricanes' determination was on full display as Bryanna G. held firm in net, stopping every shot to secure the shutout, while Hannah P. took home Player of the Game. Hungry for more, our U13B Richardson Team entered Game 4 with unshakable confidence. The Oshawa Lady Generals did their best to hold off the scoring FORCE of the Hurricanes, but our girls would not be stopped! It was an all-around team effort, with both forwards and defenders making an impact on the scoreboard, overwhelming the Lady Generals in a commanding 9-1 victory. Anna A. led the charge, earning Player of the Game.

In the championship final, our Hurricanes found themselves facing Collingwood once again. Knowing they had the momentum, they struck first with a goal from Selena P., sending a message that they were here to battle. The Lightning, however, equalized before the first period ended and managed to net the go-ahead goal late in the third. In a thrilling, edge-of-the-seat game, our Hurricanes refused to back down, applying relentless pressure until the final buzzer. It was a hard-fought 2-1 loss, but the team skated away with the SILVER medal and the pride of knowing they had battled some of the strongest teams in Ontario. Player of the Game honours went to Charlotte E. in the finals.

Coaches were very proud that the players rose to the challenge and persevered, and commend the players on how much they have developed in the last few months. Furthermore, the U13B Richardson team acknowledges their season and its successes would not be possible without the continued support from their sponsors; heart filled thank you’s to Adventure Canada, Holy Name of Mary College School, Augment Wheel Company, The Workhouse and Impact Machine Brand Solutions!
