Hurricane Alert! Bidding Adieu to 2024 & Ringing in 2025 with Gold & Silver Medals!

As the calendar flipped from 2024 to 2025, the Mississauga Hurricanes stormed into the New Year with a string of impressive performances, bringing home GOLD and SILVER medals from several tournaments. Read ahead for details on how our teams dominated the ice and made us proud!



Golden Domination in California for U18A Sommerville!

Our U18A Sommerville Hurricanes stormed into Irvine, California, for the One Hockey Southern California Tournament from November 29 to December 1, 2024. The team dominated the competition with a perfect 4-0-0 record, securing 1st place in the round robin. Our Hurricanes kicked off their campaign with a 5-0 shutout win against BC North Shore Winter Club, followed by an impressive 8-0 shutout victory over the Anaheim Lady Ducks. Their momentum carried into the third game, where they blanked the Burlington Barracudas 6-0, setting the stage for the championship rematch. Facing Burlington once again, our Hurricanes displayed skill and determination, securing a 5-1 win in the final and clinching the glorious GOLD medal in style!

With three shutouts and allowing only one goal against in the entire tournament, our U18A Sommerville team showcased an impenetrable defence and lethal offence. Congratulations to the team for an unforgettable performance!

Third Time’s a Charm for U13A Chlebowski!

Our U13A Chlebowski Hurricanes brought their A-game to Princeton, NJ, for the NGHL Winter Classic Futures from January 3 - 5, 2025, emerging as champions with a flawless 6-0-0 record! In a thrilling start, our Hurricanes edged out the New Jersey Bandits with a 2-1 overtime shootout win. They followed up with a 3-0 shutout victory over the Shoreline Sharks and a commanding 6-1 win against the Boston Advantage. A dominating 7-1 win over the Princeton Tiger Lilies rounded off the round robin stage, securing our Hurricanes spot in the playoffs. Our U13A Chlebowski team continued their trajectory with a 6-0 semi-final win against the Boston Advantage before facing the New Jersey Bandits once again in the championship game. In a nail-biting finale, our Hurricanes triumphed with a 3-2 victory, claiming that grand GOLD medal!

“We’re thrilled to share some amazing news from Princeton, NJ! This was our third finals appearance out of four tournaments this season, and we’re so proud to finally bring home the hardware,” shared the coaches. “The team showed incredible determination, teamwork, and resilience throughout the weekend, proving once again why they’re such a special group. Thank you to all the players, coaches, and families who supported us on this journey. Let’s celebrate this achievement and keep building on this momentum as we head into the rest of the season!”

A Silver Finish at Silver Stick for U18A Summers!

Battling through a packed schedule at the 25th Annual Sarnia Girls Final Silver Stick Tournament, held January 2 - 5, 2025, our U18A Summers Hurricanes emerged from the round robin with a 3-1-0 record, placing 2nd in points. Our Hurricanes opened with a 3-0 shutout win against the North Halton Twisters, followed by a tight 4-3 victory over the South Huron Sabres. Undeterred by a slight setback against the Strathroy Bluewater Hawks who took the game 5-2, our team closed out the round robin with a 5-2 win over the Haldimand Rivercats. Despite an early morning start and a tight turnaround for games, our U18A Summers Hurricanes powered through to the semi-finals, subduing the South Huron Sabres 3-1. In their third game of the day, the championship match-up, our Hurricanes faced the Strathroy Bluewater Hawks again, powering through a competitive back-and-forth game against the #1 team in the West loop. Entering the third period tied 1-1, the Hurricanes ultimately fell to the fresh legs of the Hawks, 3-1, earning a hard-fought SILVER medal!

Coaches, from the MGHL and other organizations, praised the team’s impressive grit, determination, and sportsmanship, leaving no doubt about their competitive spirit.

Golden Glory at the New Year's Classic for U22A Willett!

Our U22A Willett Hurricanes demonstrated resilience and skill at the Scarborough 39th Annual New Year's Classic from January 3 - 5, 2025, which included both OWHA teams and two Quebec-based teams from Montreal and Rimouski PQ. Following round robin play, our Hurricanes finished with a 3-1-0 record and placed 2nd in points. Our Hurricanes started with a narrow 2-1 loss to the Durham West Lightning, but were re-energized by a 1-0 shutout win over Pionnières Cégep de Rimouski. Building on their momentum, they defeated the Brampton Canadettes 3-1, and secured another shutout win, 4-0, against the Westlake Wild to advance to the championships. In a rematch against the Durham West Lightning, our U22A Willett Hurricanes delivered a dominant performance, claiming the gorgeous GOLD medal with a striking 3-0 shutout win! Facing last year’s U22A Ontario Provincial Champions in this closely matched finale, our Hurricanes proved their mettle and showcased their exceptional teamwork.

Coaches and parents applauded the team’s perseverance and talent, celebrating this well-earned victory. Reflecting on the accomplishment, the coaches shared, “On behalf of the Coaching Staff and parents alike we wish all the players of the U22A team a huge congratulations and couldn’t be more proud of this accomplishment.”

Riding the Storm to Gold in Huntsville for U18B Naughton!

Blowing through the competition at the Huntsville GHA 46th Annual Tournament from January 10-12, 2025, our U18B Naughton Hurricanes achieved a stellar undefeated 3-0-1 record. The tournament began with a defensive battle against the Kanata Rangers, resulting in a hard-fought 0-0 tie. Our Hurricanes regrouped to ground the Ilderton Jets, soaring past to secure a 2-0 shutout win. In the next matchup, our U18B Naughton Hurricanes were ready to clip the wings of the Huntsville Sting for a crushing 2-1 triumph. In a thrilling championship rematch against the Kanata Rangers, our Hurricanes outmaneuvered their opponents, delivering a decisive 1-0 shutout victory to claim the coveted GOLD medal! The team showed outstanding effort and determination throughout the tournament!
