This past weekend the MGHL hosted our 44th annual Winter Classic Tournament and we welcomed 75 talented teams across 12 divisions for over 170 exciting games!
Our Mississauga Hurricanes played hard against our participating opponents and we want to congratulate our U11B Khan team for their great performance during the tournament! They went undefeated in the round robin, placing first in the pool with a 2-2-0 record, including two shutouts against the Oakville Hornets (9-0) and Flamborough Falcons (5-0). The team played a hard fought and dramatic final against the North Halton Twisters in a close 2-1 championship game to secure that stunning SILVER. The girls played with determination, grit and passion. Congratulations on a successful tournament, U11B Khan Hurricanes!

Mississauga Hurricanes U11B Khan Team Secures SILVER!
Our U13B Richardson team swept through our home tournament with a gale FORCE, undefeated throughout the round robin with a 4-0-0 record, finishing first in points, with a total of 21 goals for and only five goals against in the entire tournament! In a strong opener, our Hurricanes could not be overcome by the North Halton Twisters in a 5-0 shutout for player of the game, goaltender Mikayla C. The Leaside Wildcats were prowling for a challenge, with a team of fast skaters and good shooters that kept the pressure on goalie Bryanna G, but our U13B Richardson team was ready for another win, 3-1, with Sophia T taking player of the game. Also unable to quell the Hurricanes storm were the Orangeville Tigers, succumbing 6-1 to our Hurricanes great teamwork and passing; our team’s hard work in practices is certainly paying off and player of the game went to Kailey K. Great effort from the defence on the offensive secured the win against a strong Burlington Barracudas team, 3-1, with players of the game Ella J and Selena P. In the semi-finals, the Leaside Wildcats came hungry to avenge, pushing the game into OT with a third period goal and swatting away a Mississauga penalty shot. Our Hurricanes amped up the pressure to score the win in OT, 2-1; player of the game went to Charlotte E. Propelling into the championship game, our Hurricanes players were feeling the nerves, knowing the Burlington Barracudas would be tough competition. Despite this, our Hurricanes' FORCE was relentless with another thrilling 2-1 OT win for the cheering hometown crowd, celebrating our team’s GOLD medal victory! The championships saw player of the game earned by Elle R. Thank you to everyone who came to watch the semis and finals. This tournament delivered the start of a good rivalry, and great competition, based on mutual respect of skills, and fueling the passion for all teams to improve throughout the season. Coaches were very proud of the effort from all players throughout the weekend - complete team effort from start to finish!
Our U13B Richardson team would like to thank their many sponsors for their generous support this season! Heart filled thank you’s to Adventure Canada, Holy Name of Mary College School, Augment Wheel Company, The Workhouse and Impact Machine Brand Solutions!

Mississauga Hurricanes U13B Richardson Captures GOLD!
Our U15A A Allen Hurricanes battled against North Halton Twisters in their first game on Friday morning coming up short 2-0. This loss was a stepping stone for the team to regain their focus to take on the next two teams - Waterloo Ravens on Friday and Kemptville Storm on Saturday. The Hurricanes took both games beating Waterloo 3-0 and Kemptville 2-1. Lots of great hockey was played and the team battled all the way until the final buzzer. Sunday morning’s game saw Mississauga take on the Etobicoke Dolphins, a team our U15A Hurricanes were undefeated against, until Sunday. The Dolphins scored an unanswered power play goal which our Hurricanes could not tie up, succumbing just 1-0. Thanks to two wins in round robin play, the team was able to slide into second place, securing a spot in the championship game against the North Halton Twisters. The team had their best game of the tournament and outplayed North Halton, but gave up a late power play goal in the third and could not climb back, clinching the SILVER medal. It was a successful tournament overall!

Mississauga Hurricanes U15A A Allen Team Snags SILVER!
Our U18A Summers team had an amazing weekend on our home rinks at the Winter Classic, coming out of the round robin in first place. Their overall tournament record was 5-0-1 and our superhuman goaltenders had three shutouts in six games and only three goals against for the weekend! Those impressive results came with only eight minutes of penalties across six games! Our Hurricanes won their semi-final in a hard fought game against our Sommerville Hurricanes, and met the Waterloo Ravens in the final on Sunday afternoon in the championships to win GOLD! Big thanks to Head Coach Jay Summers and Assistant Coaches Steve Hayes, Chris Douridas and Martin Schwertner. Finally, huge congratulations to the team for their dedication and perseverance this week and every week!
