Hurricane Alert! U11 House League Captures SILVER & GOLD at the Annual Brampton Easter Tourney!

Our U11 House League Hurricanes battled it out at the Brampton Canadettes 55th Annual Easter Tournament this past March 28 - 31 weekend.

The U11HL Championship game saw a perfect Hurricane’s storm, with two of our teams facing off in the finals! Our U11HL White Avalanche thundered past their opponents during round robin play, with three shutouts against the Brampton Canadettes White Team (6-0), Georgina Golden Hawks (10-0) and Caledon Coyotes (5-0), for a 4-0-0 record, finishing first in points in their pool of five. Our undefeated Hurricanes kept that momentum surging forward into the semis for a solid 2-1 win versus the Collingwood Blue, sending our U11HL White Avalanche charging into the finals!

After a heartbreaking loss in a shootout to win Bronze in League play, the U11HL Black Panthers got together a week later to also join in on the Annual Brampton Canadettes Tournament. Our Hurricanes got off to a great start, winning the first game to host team, the Brampton Canadettes, 5-1, led by a hat trick from Kylie P. The next two games were won by some outstanding defensive play and back to back shutouts by Ryah S., beating the Collingwood Blue and Cambridge Roadrunners Teal by identical scores of 3-0. After going 4-0-0 in the round robin and finishing first in their pool, our U11HL Black Panthers would go on to play our Mississauga Blue Lightning Team in the semi-finals, and beat them 2-1 in a very close game with both goals coming from Sade K! Our U11HL Black Panthers were poised to head into the championship game to meet their Hurricane counterparts, the White Avalanche.

In a thrilling final that went scoreless in two of the three periods and finished tied 1-1 at the end of regulation play, it was clear that both our Hurricanes teams had their sights set on the win. After both teams had some early chances to start overtime, the game winning goal came off the stick of defender Kaitlyn S. with a shot from the point at 2:26 to give the U11HL Black Panthers the GOLD medal victory! Having played with amazing passion throughout the tournament, our U11HL White Avalanche fought hard all the way to the end to earn that stunning SILVER medal!

Reflecting on their season, Coach Pat Burke from the U11HL Black Panthers noted, “A team can never be successful without the buy in, hard work, and commitment from it's players, so I would like to recognize and thank Ryah, Sade, Gloria, Samantha, Jessica, Sarah, Kylie, Zoe, Naomi, Adalyn, Keara, Kaitlyn and Avary. I would also like to thank our parents for their time and commitment and getting their players involved in this great game. A special thanks to the three parents, Coach Steve, Jennifer, and Irene, for their extra time, commitment and leadership throughout the season. I feel very fortunate to be a part of the MGHL, as the organization gave me an opportunity to be with this special group this year.”
