President's Message - June 2021
Friends and Families of the MGHL,
On behalf of your newly elected executive, we trust everyone is staying safe and enjoying the summer as Ontario slowly begins to reopen. There are still many unknowns as we move towards the fall, but we are hopeful that further direction from Hockey Canada, the OWHA, the Region of Peel and Mississauga, and ultimately the Province will allow a return to the ice in August.
Exactly when and what House League and/or Rep Teams will be able to do is under discussion – but let it be known that it is the Board’s desire to get the ‘skates laced up’ as soon as the rules of engagement are known and it is safe to do so! We know you have questions on whether players and/or parents will need to be vaccinated in order to participate. The short answer is that there has been no guidance to date. But we encourage all potential players, staff, family, and friends to seek out vaccination options to aid the reopening process and create a safer environment at the rink.
We held our AGM earlier this month and I would like to thank the non-returning board members – Jenn Nivins, Samantha Mead and Joanne Rogers – for their years of service with the MGHL. I am happy to further report that 2020-21 Interim President Eric Landman will stay with the board in an active role as Past President. His stewardship will be essential as we navigate restarting the MGHL hockey machine.
I am also happy to extend a special welcome to Pat Ceci and Neil Coreschi, who have stepped into two open roles following the vacancies left at the AGM. Pat’s strong business acumen and connections will be an asset as our Sponsorship Director. Coach Neil will put his organizational and logistics skills to use as our Equipment Director, building on the excellent foundation laid by Charles Eddie. Charles will serve as our 2021-22 Rep Director.
But wait! We still have two open board positions and need your help.
Can you or someone you know fill one of these roles? The House League Director position is vacant and requires a person who enjoys working with others – whether it be the 200+ house league families or with many of the board portfolios. We do not know what house league hockey will look like yet in 2021-22, but here is your chance to help shape the return to play process and execution in season.
Or if you are good with numbers, well organized, and capable with a spreadsheet … you may excel (pun intended) as our next Treasurer! This position is very important, especially with registration around the corner.
Wait, did someone say REGISTRATION? Yes! We are getting close to opening house league registration very soon via the RAMP system. Stay tuned to your email, MGHL.ca, and social media for the exact date and details. Rep coaches for the upcoming season have been contacted with instructions to register committed players as well.
